Minority Support Unit of South Wales Police
A Way Forward
GaySwansea.com together with South Wales Police has introduced a scheme to assist the reporting of hate crime in the area.
The self reporting scheme enables anyone to report to the police incidents of Racist and Homophobic Hate Crime, without having to physically make contact with the police.
Instead, victims of such crimes will be able to pass the information to the police via a large number of premises and localities, such as libraries and places of worship, as well as an on-line http://www.gayswansea.com/reportit.php facility. Alternatively you can email them directly from this page by clicking HERE
Inspector Daryl Fahey, from the Minority Support Unit of South Wales Police, says:
'We have continued to develop our contact with members of the community to actively encourage the reporting of Hate Crime. This will help us to build up a greater knowledge of local crime patterns and will hopefully build confidence in our commitment to tackle all aspects of Hate Crime. We have played an active part in the successful Stonewall Cymru conference in Swansea in March, where the Deputy Chief Constable for the force was one of the keynote speakers.
South Wales Police has a strong framework for addressing Hate Crime, including homophobic Hate Crime, both internally and externally. In addition to the field officers of the Minorities Support Unit, there are dedicated Hate Crime Officers within each Basic Command Unit as well as a support group of staff, a Gay Staff Network, an Internal Equality and Diversity Unit and an anti-bullying policy. We are committed to improving the level of service for members of the community suffering Hate Crime.’
Chief Superintendent Neil Kinrade, from Communities and Partnerships department of South Wales Police, said:
We introduced 'Third Party Reporting' across the South Wales Police area some years ago. True Vision, which is national best practice will enable us to enhance and widen this facility to our minority communities.
